To be a leading centre of excellence in curriculum development, planning, and coordination, fostering innovation in technical education and empowering educators with cutting-edge skills, knowledge, and pedagogical methodologies to meet the evolving needs of industry and society.

Mission

  • To support and enhance curriculum development for polytechnics and engineering colleges by aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

  • To coordinate and facilitate professional training programs at NITTTR Chennai, its extension centres, and host institutions, ensuring accessibility through flexible learning modes.

  • To empower technical educators, aspiring teachers, and professionals by providing high-quality training in pedagogical, professional, and industrial skill sets.

  • To integrate emerging technologies and industry-driven training modules, fostering knowledge creation and lifelong learning among educators.

  • To offer structured training programs categorized into Silver, Gold, and Platinum levels, catering to knowledge acquisition, deepening, and creation.

  • To provide extension services such as accreditation support, curriculum audit, mentoring, and digital learning space enhancement to improve the quality of technical education.

  • To collaborate with academia, industry, and regulatory bodies to ensure a dynamic and future-ready technical education ecosystem.

  • The department is committed to supporting curriculum development in polytechnics and engineering colleges and plays a key role in facilitating professional training programs at the NITTTR Chennai campus, its extension centers, and host institutions.

  • NITTTR Chennai plays a crucial role in empowering technical educators across the country, with a special focus on technical teachers in South India. In response to the evolving educational landscape, the institute continues to offer training programs through online, contact, and hybrid modes, ensuring that educators can enhance their knowledge and skills. Lifelong learning is both rewarding and essential, and to foster this culture, training programs are designed in flexible formats that cater to diverse learning preferences. These programs are also aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to enhance their relevance and impact.

  • NITTTR Chennai’s training programs take a holistic approach to professional development, equipping faculty members, aspiring teachers (including research scholars and students), and professionals with pedagogical, technical, and industrial skills.

  • Short-Term Training Programmes

    Short-term training programs are conducted through online, contact, and hybrid modes, with the following focus areas:

  • Professional Development Programmes (1 to 21 days): Designed following NEP 2020 to provide opportunities for faculty members, aspiring educators, and professionals to enhance their skills.

  • Refresher Courses:Focused on content updates as per AICTE/DTE model curricula.

  • Credit-Based Programmes:Offered as part of academic degree requirements.

  • Training of Trainers:Covers subject-specific pedagogy, case studies, teaching plans, assessments, and effective instructional techniques.

  • Emerging Areas:Based on national-level priority areas.

  • Industry-Collaborative Training:Conducted in partnership with industry experts (covering 70–90% of content) in alignment with industrial training policies.

  • Skill Development Courses:Hands-on training in modern tools, computational techniques, teaching methodologies, guidance and counseling, and laboratory skills.

  • Boot Camps

  • AICTE/ISTE/SERB/Ministry-Sponsored Training Programmes

  • Government Agency Training:Specialized training for working professionals in government agencies.

  • Workshops:1 to 5 days

  • Webinars/Seminars:National and international sessions featuring experts from industry, R&D organizations, and academia.

  • International/National Conferences

  • Training Modes:Available in contact, hybrid, and online Mode.

  • Training Venues:Conducted at headquarters, extension centers, host institutions, outreach locations, and collaborating MoU institutions.

  • Programme Offerings:

  • Regular Mode:1 or 2 weeks

  • Industrial Training:2 to 4 weeks

  • Customized Special Programmes

  • Modular/Fractal Mode: Weekend or vacation-based sessions

  • Self-Paced MOOCs: 10, 20, or 40-hour online courses

  • To enhance the value and impact of the Professional Development Programmes, three distinct learning levels are introduced:

  • Silver Level (S) – Basic Content Literacy & Knowledge Acquisition:Programs aligned with AICTE/DTE curricula, focusing on subject content, pedagogy, and open educational resources (OER).

  • Gold Level (G) – Knowledge Deepening:Hands-on learning through integrated case studies and modern tools, incorporating advanced content updates.

  • Platinum Level (P) – Knowledge Creation:Industry-interactive programs in high-impact areas such as IoT, Artificial Intelligence, Electric Vehicle Technology, Virtual Reality, and Augmented Reality.

  • Extension Services

    The department also provides a range of extension services to support educational institutions, faculty members, and students:

  • Accreditation Support:Guidance, mentoring, and evaluation for NBA, NAAC, and NABL accreditation.

  • Academic Audit:Assessing and improving academic quality.

  • Educational Resources Development:Creation of books, monographs, manuals, and research proposals.

  • Classroom Instruction Observation:Personalized teacher improvement programs aligned with NEP 2020 (Chapters 13 and 15).

  • Curriculum Audit and Revision:Vetting and updating curricula to align with industry standards and educational policies.

  • Green Campus & Digital Learning Spaces:Support for implementing digital resources, Wi-Fi infrastructure, studio-based learning, and digital repositories.

  • Laboratory Demonstration Videos:Development of instructional resources for practical learning.

  • Mentoring Services:Professional guidance for educators and institutions.

  • MOOC Design, Delivery, and Evaluation:Expertise in developing and assessing massive open online courses.

  • Student Motivation and Counseling Services:Programs to support student engagement and academic success.
